Erika Spencer makes music about the seriousness of life without taking herself too seriously. Her songwriting deals with the human experience, with honesty and precision and at the same time always with a twinkle in her eye. A bit like the books of Jane Austen, which she fell in love with as a teenager.
Her instrument of choice is the piano, live she sometimes plays the guitar. Originally, she was on her way to becoming a jazz pianist. You can hear this in her songs: the Swiss singer-songwriter with South African roots combines alternative pop with jazz and folk.
With her debut album “Go”, she celebrates the courageous departure – and all the fears, contradictions and absurdities that come with it.
