With their eponymous debut album, the Braunschweig-based band Okertones releases a diverse collection of songs that tell stories of winning and losing, of longing, friendship, home, and wanderlust. At its heart: the warm, shimmering sound of the dobro – played by founder and bandleader Tom Bennecke, who glides through the songs like the river Oker through his hometown.
Seven band members form the heart of Okertones, complemented by numerous guest musicians. Each brings their own style – Americana and folk meet blues, bluegrass meets jazz. Ironically refracted cowboy and cowgirl references provide a tongue-in-cheek lightness to an otherwise profound sound.
The album thrives on spontaneity, intuition, and genuine interplay – without any click track or digital smoothing. Handmade music with rough edges and soul.
