The debut album “Vinyl Flavor” by “The Soulmate Project” is the result of a very personal journey by musician and producer Roman Andor. The cover shows a record – on it: Bohemian brass music – from his Czech grandfather’s extensive collection and allows us to look inside himself through the artist’s eye.
The view provides a clear view of the Eastern European sounds from the parents’ home that have been familiar since childhood, organically linked to electro swing, soul, disco and global pop. The multitude of instruments are mostly played by Roman himself and put through record-like filters. These give the album a distinctive sound profile.
“Vinyl Flavor” is both an autobiographical journey of exploration and a pop-cultural foray through music history. Not least reflected by the choice of cover songs, which range from classics from the Addams Family title track to the piece “Ein Tag Wie Gold” sung by Max Raabe and known from “Babylon Berlin”.
